A 2004 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a bachelors of business administration degree, Heidi Swygert began her CRE career in 2015.
After college, she worked on the legal side of residential real estate, but during the summer of 2015, she said, a friend referred her to KDC.
Today, she is a development associate at the firm, where she cited as a professional accomplishment being part of the project team on the first two phases of the State Farm Park Center campus in Dunwoody. She said she also is proud to have been a member of the NAIOP Georgia Future Leaders Class of 2017, after just one year on the commercial side of the industry, and the CREW Atlanta (Commercial Real Estate Women) programs committee.
The industry does present challenges, however, Swygert said. “My biggest challenge has been learning to accept the fact that ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day,’ that it takes patience and time to excel in any position,” she said. “With me being a perfectionist, that is hard to accept.”
Swygert said she relies on her colleagues’ wealth of experience. “I love to learn, so listening and being persistent have been vital to my growth.”
Those strengths have led to strong relationships, she added. “The people I have met over the last three years are not only colleagues, but also great friends.”
Within KDC, Swygert already has made her mark, said Alex Chambers, regional vice president. “She has earned the respect of her peers for her desire and ability to quickly learn the development business, her enthusiastic willingness to take on all tasks and her desire to grow her skill set every day,” he said, adding that her participation in professional organizations also contributes to her success. “Heidi has quickly established both personal and business relationships in the commercial real estate industry by actively participating in numerous organizations, as well as playing a very active role in KDC’s Park Center development for State Farm, and engaging in KDC’s ongoing new-business efforts.”
To Swygert, commercial real estate is the perfect fit. “I love working with so many amazing professionals,” she said. “It is so exciting to be a part of a dynamic team that works together to make a piece of real estate turn into something essential to a community.”
